World celebrity news: Kate Moss Gold Statue

Supermodel Kate Moss has been immortalized in gold. British artist Marc Quinn has immortalized her famous face and figure as a solid-gold statue named Siren. The artist says this is the largest statue made of gold since the time of Ancient Egypt and the value of the life-size sculpture is more than $18 million. The 50kg statue will be displayed in the British Museum with the Greek goddesses.
The statue will be part of a group of major sculptures by leading British artists to go on display at the museum in October, the museum announced. Quinn described the statue: “I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who’s the ideal beauty of the moment. But even Kate Moss doesn’t live up to the image.” The exhibition, entitled Statuephilia, will also feature 200 plastic skulls by Damien Hirst, and is expected to run from October 4 through January 25, 2009.
